Giao-Chau has been telling stories all her life. She began in children’s musical theater where she paradoxically always played the bad guy and would work painting the sets in order to pay for her costumes and fees. Since then, she has made a career of creating imaginary worlds for television, film, commercials, live events and theatre.
Currently, Ms. Ly is the Production Designer for the ABC procedural The Rookie as well as the Netflix hit The Recruit. On television, her work has also been seen on Speechless (ABC), Single Parents (ABC), Supergirl (CBS), The Gifted (FOX), and Community (Sony/ Yahoo). Commercial clients include Samsung, Lenovo, T-Mobile and Audi.
Ms. Ly is a proud daughter of immigrant parents. She was the first American-born child in her family which her mother commemorated by naming her Giao-Chau (Vietnamese for connecting continents). She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, attended U.C. San Diego for her B.A. and received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Her film work has garnered several awards and screened internationally.
When not working, Ms. Ly loves to sail and is learning to play the ukulele. She lives in Mt Washington with her husband and daughter, their dog Barnaby Jones, two chickens (Henrietta Muffintop & Percy) and a sweet senior cat Lulu.
